painting study

Here is the first piece I did for the Figure Painting I class. The assignment was to paint a a copy of a sculpture in black and white.

I especially like the effect of the shadows here, painted thinly and rubbed out, against the lights which are painted with thicker paint. This is an effect I always admired in oil paintings, but I could never get the hang of it until I took Head Painting class last semester.
