Yo-Yo Ma made a visit to the Kalahari San people (Bushmen) to learn about their music. The visit was made into a documentary film, but I couldn’t find any copy of it.
I dressed the Bushman in this illustration according to whatever photo reference I could find, but the more I read about the current status of the San people, the more I think that probably the people Yo-Yo visited were not dressed like this at all. Probably they only dress like this for adventure tourists.
With this piece I’m also practicing digital painting. Until now I’ve mostly done straight-ahead portraits in oils. I’m not completely satisfied with this piece, but I have learned from it.
